Moonlight The Halloween Cat by Cynthia Rylant

There are stories which twist and turn with their plot-lines, and then there are those that are called slice-of-life stories. Cynthia Rylant has written a perfect slice-of life story; warm, fuzzy, feel good.

We see Halloween through the eyes of Moonlight—the "black as night"cat. We see scarecrows as laps-to-sit-on, and pumpkins that smile at you.

Out in that dark we see sights we would not not normally pay attention to: owls flying in the night, a rabbit scurrying, raccoons hurrying. We see star-shine in the pond, and the warmth of a house where a dog is snug in its bed. We see all over again the beauty and fun that is Halloween.
